If you think you’ve got what it takes to work as an air traffic controller, you’re encouraged to stop by Olive-Harvey College on Friday.
This initial application process will take candidates about 20 to 30 minutes.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Olive Harvey have partnered for several years now, offering this opportunity to students and targeting South Side residents.
“There has not been an aviation maintenance program since the Chicago Vocational School had it 25 years ago, so if anyone was interested in becoming an aviation mechanic, they would have to join the military,” said Cheryl Freeman Smith with Olive-Harvey College.
But now students can explore aviation tech at Olive–Harvey and they can find out about that and how to become an air traffic controller.
“We’re looking for average Americans who can do this kind of work. It’s one of the best jobs in government,” said Dr. William McClinton with the FAA.
The process to become certified can take about three-years. The average salary for around three-years on the job is about $150,000 a year.
