This event is one of sixteen dynamic breakout sessions that make up Innovate ’22, the City Colleges of Chicago Adult Education Conference taking place on June 10, 2022.
Session Title: Teaching Methodologies for Diverse Learners in Adult Education Classrooms
Presenter: Marilyn Cosentino (Daley College)
Date and Time: June 10, 2022 from 11:00 to 11:50 a.m.
Description: This presentation reviews effective teaching methodologies for adult education students and is applicable to all adult education subjects (language arts, math, Career Bridge, and English as a Second Language/ESL). Often, our students find their way to adult education because traditional classrooms failed them. They come to us with undiagnosed learning challenges, trauma, and other issues impacting their ability to learn.
This presentation focuses on proven techniques that allow all students the opportunity to learn and thrive in our classrooms. These techniques were born in the special education classroom but are designed for learners of all abilities. The presentation provides examples of how to implement these techniques into language arts, math, and ESL classes. Attending teachers are encouraged to share their own favorite teaching methods at the end of the presentation.
