This event is one of sixteen dynamic breakout sessions that make up Innovate ’22, the City Colleges of Chicago Adult Education Conference taking place on June 10, 2022.
Session Title: Tempo & Rhythm for Computer Courses
Presenter: Samuel Du Bois (Olive-Harvey College)
Date and Time: June 10, 2022 from 2:00 to 2:50 p.m.
Description: Every class has a certain tempo and rhythm that helps support students’ learning and skill acquisition. This presentation showcases best practices for lesson delivery and project completion for basic computer courses. By using the Internet Café model, students are engaged and motivated as they move from three core lesson sections on the Internet Café’s menu. The menu has starters (email tasks, typing skills), main courses (lectures about technology news and Microsoft Office projects), and desserts (showcasing and presenting projects). This is a fun way to introduce course agendas and their learning outcomes for each class. The presentation shows how each of the sections on the Internet Cafe menu builds a unique tempo and rhythm, engaging students and multiplying their acquired skills and inspired creativity.
