Do the terms software, hardware, megabytes, gigabytes, and modems make any sense to you? If not, this is the place for you. Conquer your fear of computers in this beginner’s class. You will learn the components of the systems and how to boot up and shut down the computer, develop mouse skills, understand the use of media storage, files, folders, icons, software, accessory programs, operating systems, and sizing and moving windows. You’ll also create an e-mail account and learn how to use and search the internet.

This class is part of the Future Ready program, which pays the course fees for students who meet the following criteria. If you meet the following criteria, the course is free. If you do not qualify for Future Ready, the course is $149.

  • Chicago resident
  • New to City Colleges or Continuing Education, or returning after two spring/fall semesters away
  • Have not previously taken a class funded by Future Ready

Classes meet in person on the following schedule for Fall 2022:

Saturdays, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Oct. 29 to Dec. 17, 2022
